Volleyball Splits Day One at Worthington Classic at Gallaudet

Washington, DC (September 29, 2017) - The DeSales University volleyball team split two matches on day one of the 11th annual Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University on Friday evening.

Match #1 (L/2-3 vs. Kean University)
After dropping the first set, 25-18, DSU bounced back nicely to take sets two and three (25-20 and 25-19) but couldn't close it out in the fourth falling, 25-22.  Kean then hit .409 in the fifth set totaling 11 kills and just two errors to earn the 15-11 win taking the match.

Freshman Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) led the charge with 21 kills.  Junior Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) added 12 kills and 17 digs and sophomore Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) finished with 15 kills.  Freshman Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) finished with 47 assists and junior Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) totaled 20 digs.  Sophomore Taylor Aron (Sinking Spring, PA) added 14 digs and junior Julia DePuyt (Oak Ridge, NJ) had 12 digs.

Match #2 (W/3-0 vs. Montclair State University)
The Bulldogs got into the win column in the second match of the day sweeping Montclair State University, 26-24, 25-19, 25-18.  DSU hit .270 for the match and had 6.5 team blocks in the win.

Savite` led the attack this time with 14 kills and 15 digs, Kelly had 12 kills, and Shoemaker finished with 10 kills and four blocks.

Bradford dished out 37 assists and Gray finished with 21 digs in the win.

The Bulldogs are back at it tomorrow when they take on RIT and Nichols College on day two of the tournament.
