Allentown, PA (September 6, 2017) - Sophomore
Madison Brader (Coopersburg, PA) scored the game's lone goal 10 minutes into the second half leading the DeSales University field hockey team past 16th ranked Muhlenberg College, 1-0, on a rainy Wednesday evening.
The win is the first in three career meetings over the Mules (0-2) and is also the first-ever win for the Bulldogs (2-0) over a nationally ranked team. DSU has now beaten both local rivals for the first time in the same season.
After a scoreless first-half DSU scored the game-winner at 45:42 when junior
Chelsea DeFrancisco (Bethlehem, PA) inserted a penalty corner to senior
Kelly Meade (Philadelphia, PA) who slotted a pass to Brader who fired a shot just inside the circle past the Mule keeper.
DSU out-shot Muhlenberg, 10-6, while the Mules had a 12-8 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore
Katarina Polyviou (Cranford, NJ) made two saves to record her second straight shutout.
DeSales is back in action on Sunday when they travel to Marywood University with game time set for 2:00 pm.
