Women's Hoops Never Trails in 82-74 Win over FDU-Florham

Center Valley, PA (January 13, 2018) - The DeSales University women's basketball team opened Saturday's game with an 11-0 run and never looked back in an 82-74 win over FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs controlled this game from the very beginning scoring the first 11 points of the game and never trailed, leading for 39 minutes and 46 seconds of the game.  The Devils got within four once in the first-half but junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) answered that threat with a three and DSU scored six of the final seven points of the half to take a 40-30 lead into the locker room.

DSU dominated the start of the third quarter pushing its lead up to 19 points (54-35) at the 4:41 mark before the Devils pulled back to within 10 at the end of three quarters.

The advantage was 14 with 3:25 to go before DeSales iced the victory from the line hitting 8-for-10 from the charity stripe over the final three minutes of action.

Sterner finished with a team-high 24 points and added four assists in the win.  Junior Bridget Walsh (Dunmore, PA) totaled a career-high in points (16) and season-high in rebounds (13) recording her first double-double of the season and added four blocks.  Junior Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) carved up the Devil press for 12 assists and was just short of a triple-double once again adding nine points and eight boards.  Senior Kaitlin Kelly (Newtown, PA) added 13 points and eight boards, while sophomore Molly Jansco (Newfoundland, PA) finished with 11 points and nine boards.

Kendrea Williams had a game-high 31 points, Gabrielle Harris finished with 15 points and seven boards, and Kayla Croswell and Bria Smith each had 10 points off the bench.

DeSales dominated the glass out-rebounding FDU, 59-47, and out-scored the Devils, 44-30, in the paint.  DSU did an outstanding job handling the high powered Devil pressure committing just 15 turnovers and handing out 21 assists as a team.  The Bulldogs shot 39.5 percent from the field and held FDU to just 30.0 percent shooting.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they tavel to Wilkes University for another MAC Freedom game beginning at 8:00 pm.
