Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | BJ Spigelmyer - DeSales SID

Women's Hoops Drops Second Straight, 55-50, at King's

Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 24, 2018) - The DeSales University women's basketball team shot just 32.2 percent, dropping its second straight game, 55-50, at King's College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs (9-9, 4-3 MAC Freedom) got 11 points from junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) and 10 points each from sophomore Molly Jansco (Newfoundland, PA) and senior Kaitlin Kelly (Newtown, PA) in the loss.

King's (10-8, 5-2 MAC Freedom) was led by Alexis Steeber with 12 points and Mackenzie Yori and Rebecca Prociak with 11 points each.  Prociak had a double-double adding 10 rebounds.

DeSales had a quick start to the game out-scoring King's, 20-12, in the first quarter but went ice cold from the field in the second quarter.  Despite being unable to score, the Bulldogs still led 24-17 late in the quarter before the Monarchs ended the half on a 12-0 run to take a 29-24 lead into the halftime locker room.

The third quarter was back and forth the entire way as DSU pulled to within a solo point several times and finally tied the game late on a banked in 3 from Kelly with 23 seconds left at 39.

After King's scored the first three points of the fourth quarter DeSales used an 8-2 run to finally reclaim the lead at 47-44 after back-to-back short jumpers from Jansco but KC answered with a three tying the score at 47 with 6:28 left.

Trailing by one (50-49) with 3:23 to go, King's hit a trey on the other end to take a four-point cushion.  Junior Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) hit 1-of-2 freebies on the ensuing possession and DSU forced a shot clock violation reclaiming possession of the ball with just under two minutes left.

Birmelin missed a three on the other end and King's ran one minute and 23 seconds off the clock after an offensive rebound and then a steal immediately off a Bulldog defensive board before DeSales finally regained possession still down three.

After multiple timeouts, King's stole the inbounds pass and raced down the court for the exclamation point on the five-point win.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday looking to snap this two-game skid as they open the second-half of the MAC Freedom schedule hosting Eastern University with game time set for 1:00 pm.
