Volleyball Clinches MAC Freedom Postseason Spot with 3-2 Win at Misericordia

Dallas, PA (October 10, 2018) - The DeSales University shook off the effects of a trip out West this weekend gutting out a 5-set win at Misericordia University to stay unbeaten and clinch its 12th straight spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.

  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, Misericordia - 2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 27-29, 15-6)
  • Records: DeSales (17-7, 5-0 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (15-9, 3-2 MAC Freedom)
How it Happened
  • Fresh off returning from Los Angeles late on Monday night the Bulldogs were able to find just enough legs to grind out a five-set win taking an 8-2 lead in the fifth set and serving out the last six points to win 15-6.
  • The Bulldogs hit .241 for the match and never committed more than five errors in any of the five sets.
  • DeSales had match points (24-23) in the fourth set before MU rallied to take the set, 29-27.
  • The win improves DSU to 5-0 in the MAC Freedom and clinches a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament for the 12th straight year.  The Bulldogs still need to finish with two wins over its last two conference matches to earn the #1 seed and home court advantage throughout the conference postseason.
Top Bulldog Performers For the Foes
  • Misericordia had five players reach double digit kills including Sarah Pool (15), Jassmine Watson (14), Tara Welliver (13), Jessica Oltman (11), and Amanda Curcio (10).
  • Karley May had 50 assists and Kaitlin Wheeler led the defense with 16 digs.
Inside the Box Score
  • Both teams hit over .200 for the match with DSU finishing at .241 and the Cougars at .201.
  • DSU had nine team blocks as compared to just four for Misericordia.
