Volleyball Clinches Top Seed in Playoffs with 3-0 Win over Wilkes

Center Valley, PA (October 16, 2018) - For the second straight year the DeSales University volleyball team will be the top seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament clinching the top spot with a 3-0 win over Wilkes University in MAC Freedom action on Tuesday night in Billera Hall.

  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, Wilkes - 0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-19)

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs pulled away in the first leading by just two (12-10), scoring 13 of the last 15 minutes to win 25-12, hitting .467 in the first set.
  • Wilkes pulled to within one points (18-17) late in the second set before the Bulldogs scored seven of the last 10 points to win 25-20 and never trailed in the third set to close out the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Morghan Shoemaker finished with 10 kills and four blocks, while hitting .714 for the match.
  • Senior Gabby Savite` and sophomore Grace Merritt each had 10 kills, with Savite` adding 10 digs.
  • Senior Natalie Gray finished with 13 digs and three aces giving her 200 aces in her career making her just the seventh player all-time to record 200+ service aces.
  • Freshman Audrey Wolfe finished with 32 assists and nine digs.
For the Foes
  • Jamey Mikovich led the Colonels with 13 kills and 13 digs in the loss.

  • The Bulldogs sided out an impressive 76% of the match.
  • DSU hit .356 and collected seven team blocks.
