Volleyball Wins Two Matches on Day Two of California Trip

Claremont, CA (October 6, 2018) - The DeSales University volleyball team rebounded from two losses on Friday night to take both matches on Saturday on day two of its trip out West to Southern California.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, UC-Santa Cruz - 0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16); DeSales - 3, Pomona-Pitzer - 1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-11)
  • Records: DeSales (16-7); UC-Santa Cruz (6-15); Pomona-Pitzer (8-11)
How it Happened
  • In the first match, DeSales hit .237 and side out 66 percent of the time to roll past UC-Santa Cruz.  DSU hit over .250 in both the first and third set, making just seven errors combined in those two sets.
  • In the second match, the Bulldogs hit over .300 in the first, third, and fourth sets to easily defeat Pomona-Pitzer.  DSU committed just five hitting errors in the first, third, and fourth set combined, and dropped the second set after totaling seven errors and hitting just .154.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Gabby Savite` had back-to-back doubles with 11 kills and 12 digs vs. UC-Santa Cruz and 21 kills and 16 digs in the win over Pomona-Pitzer.
  • Junior Morghan Shoemaker finished with 12 kills in each match hitting over .400 in both matches.  She added five blocks vs. UC-Santa Cruz and three vs. Pomona-Pitzer.
  • Sophomore Noel Kelly totaled 22 kills in the two matches hitting over .350 in each match.
  • Freshman Audrey Wolfe finished with 35 assists vs. UC-Santa Cruz and 48 helpers vs. PP and totaled seven blocks in the two matches
  • Senior Natalie Gray had 38 digs over the two matches pushing her over 2,200 in her career.
For the Foes
  • Claire Okerlund finished with 10 kills to lead UC-Santa Cruz.
  • Vicky-Marie Addo-Ash had 13 kills and Gaby Harrison 11 kills to lead PP.
