Second-Half Run Leads Men's Basketball past Muhlenberg, 76-67

Allentown, PA (December 18, 2018) - The DeSales University men's basketball team used a 17-2 run in the second-half to pull away from Muhlenberg College in a 76-67 win in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Memorial Hall.

The Basics

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs opened the game with the first seven points and extended the lead to 12 points (19-7) at the 12:01 mark.
  • The lead reached 15 at the 5:28 mark after a 12-2 DeSales run started by a three from junior Alex House and five points from sophomore Matt Kachelries.
  • Muhlenberg chipped away at the advantage and got within seven points at the half (38-31).
  • In the second-half, DeSales led by 12 early scoring the first five points of the second stanza before the Mules got within four points (47-43).
  • The Bulldogs switched to a 2-3 zone sparking a 17-2 run over the span of 6:19 to build a 65-45 lead and never looked back from there.  Junior Tracy Simsick had eight points during the run and Kachelries added a three.
  • Muhlenberg did get within six twice late in the game before DSU hit 3-of-4 from the foul line to ice the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Simsick led the Bulldogs with 22 points and added seven rebounds.
  • Kachelries recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
  • House added 13 points and pulled down six boards, while senior Luke Connaghan finished with 10 points.
For the Foes
  • Matt Gnias finished with a game-high 24 points and added five rebounds and five assists.
  • Nate Henty Brown added 14 points and Dallas Hoffman added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales shot 45.2 percent from the field and held the Mules to just 36.1 percent for the game.
  • DSU out-rebounded MC, 44-39.
  • The Bulldogs also handed out 15 assists and committed just 11 turnovers.
  • DeSales got 67 of its 76 points from its starting lineup.
