Women's Basketball Hands #25 Muhlenberg First Loss, 85-44

Allentown, PA (December 18, 2018) - The DeSales University women's basketball team handed #25 Muhlenberg College its first loss of the season in dominating fashion, 85-44, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Memorial Hall.

How it Happened
  • DSU shot 52.6 percent over the first quarter to open up a 24-12 lead.
  • The Bulldogs opened the game on a 12-2 run and finished the quarter on a 10-2 run after the Mules got within four points on back-to-back three-pointers.
  • A 15-4 run to start the second quarter pushed the advantage to 22 points (40-18) and DeSales never really looked back from there.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Morgan Birmelin had a historic night recording her 500th career assist with 10 in the game.  She is just the second player in team history with 500+ career assists.
  • Senior Leandra Sterner led the scoring efforts with 17 points, hitting four 3's.
  • Freshman Averi Jordan had 12 points as the only other double digit scorer.
  • Senior Bridget Walsh finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.
  • All 14 players in uniform reached the scoring column as sophomore Isabel Caruso, freshman Emma Stanfield, and junior Molly Jansco each had seven tallies off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Muhlenberg was led by Mikaela McGarvey with nine points off the bench.
  • Carley Hamilton had a team-high nine rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales controlled the glass, out-rebounding MC, 44-36.
  • The Bulldogs had 19 assists and just 16 turnovers, while the Mules only had 6 assists and committed 25 turnovers.
  • DSU finished the game shooting 43.1 percent, while Muhlenberg hit just 28.3 percent.
