Men's Basketball Rolls Past FDU-Florham, 80-64, in MAC Freedom Opener

Madison, NJ (December 5, 2018) - The DeSales University men's basketball team opened up MAC Freedom play with an 80-64 win on the road at FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 80, FDU-Florham - 64
  • Records: DeSales (4-4, 1-0 MAC Freedom); FDU-Florham (2-7, 0-1 MAC Freedom)
How it Happened
  • After FDU scored the first bucket of the game, DSU used a 17-6 run as five different players scored led by senior Luke Connaghan with six to take a 17-8 lead.
  • DeSales led the entire half and was up four late before finishing the period with five straight points including a three from Connaghan and a jumper from freshman Rob Miller to take a 39-30 edge in the halftime locker room.
  • The Devils cut the margin down to six early in the second-half before the Bulldogs put the game away with a 16-4 run over the span of six minutes to take a 62-44 lead led by junior Julian Wing who scored six points and never looked back from there with the lead peaking at 25 with 1:45 to go.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Ben Pratt led four players in double digits with 17 points and added two steals.
  • Connaghan finished with 13 points and pulled down six boards.
  • Wing came off the bench to score 11 points and sophomore Matt Kachelries had 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the win.
  • Juniors Tracy Simsick and Alex House each had eight points and freshman Rob Miller (7 points) and Keba Mitchell (6 points, 2 blocks) played well off the bench.
For the Foes
  • The Devils also had four players in double digits led by Anthony Mitchell with 18.
  • Andy Fleurantin had 14 points, Rajaan Dixon recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, and Darren Davy finished with 10 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU torched the second-half nets shooting 59.3 percent and hit 53.3 percent for the game.
  • The Bulldogs were 12-for-24 (50.0%) from three for the game.
