Men's Hoops Holds on Late in 62-55 Win over King's

Center Valley, PA (December 8, 2018) - The DeSales University men's basketball shook off a late second-half rally by King's College scoring the final five points of the game to earn a 62-55 win over the Monarchs in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

The Basics

How it Happened
  • A sloppy first-half saw the Bulldogs finish the half on a 13-4 run turning a tie at 15 into a 28-19 lead as both teams sot under 40 percent for the half.
  • DeSales spent the first 10 minutes of the second-half slowly building its lead as the Bulldogs were up 15 (51-36) at the 9:19 mark.
  • King's responded with a 10-1 run over the next 3:30 to pull within six (52-46) at the 5:48 mark.
  • After trading baskets the two teams went scoreless for a stretch of 2:40 before sophomore Matt Kachelries hit a 3 to put DSU up 57-48 with 2:34 to go.
  • The Monarchs scored the next seven points on four free throws and a three from Noah Tanner to get within two points with 51 ticks left.
  • The Bulldogs responded on the next possession as junior Alex House hit his third triple of the game on the right wing to push the lead up five and Kachelries iced the win from the line on the next possession after a Monarch turnover.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • House was outstanding recording his first career double-double with a career-high tying 12 points and a career-best 10 rebounds.
  • Kachelries finished with nine points and junior Tracy Simsick had eight, all in the second-half.
  • Freshman Rob Miller gave DSU a lift off the pine with a season-high nine points, hitting three 3's.
For the Foes
  • King's got 14 points from Jake Pawliczak as the lone scorer in double digits.
Inside the Box Score
  • Both teams shot better in the second half but finished shooting under 40 percent with DSU hitting 37.5 percent and King's canning 39.3 percent from the field.
