Women's Basketball Wins 10th Straight at Home, 84-43, over King's

Center Valley, PA (December 8, 2018) - The DeSales University women's basketball team won its 10th straight home game in decisive fashion, 84-43, over King's College in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 84, King's - 43
  • Records: DeSales (7-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom); King's (6-3, 1-1 MAC Freedom)
How it Happened
  • DSU had the defensive dial turned up from the start holding the Monarchs to just 3-for-19 shooting in the opening quarter opening up a 20-7 lead.  Freshman Rylie Rittenhouse led the scoring attack with seven first quarter points.
  • The Bulldogs then closed the second quarter with a 17-0 run over a stretch of 5:09 to extend its lead to 29 points before taking a 43-16 lead into the locker room.  Senior Leandra Sterner had a team-high nine points during the spurt.
  • The lead peaked to as many as 43 points late in the third quarter as DeSales out-scored King's, 28-14, in the third and never looked back from there.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Morgan Birmelin finished with a game-high 18 points and added five assists and three steals.
  • Sterner had 15 points and three steals and Rittenhouse finished with 12 points and five rebounds off the bench.
  • Senior Bridget Walsh continued her strong play with eight points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
  • Freshman Samantha Shinkus had 10 points and freshman Emma Stanfield had six points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
For the Foes
  • Alexis Steeber led the Monarchs with 15 points as the lone double digit scorer.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs shot 43.2 percent from the field and held King's to just 23.0 percent shooting.
  • DSU forced 21 King's turnovers leading to 21 points.
  • DeSales dominated the paint out-rebounding King's, 56-35, and out-scoring the Monarchs 40-20 in the paint.
