Center Valley, PA (February 17, 2018) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team dropped its 2018 season opener, 7-4, to Elizabethtown College in non-conference action on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (0-1 overall) got two goals from senior
Joe Neggia (Kinnelon, NJ) and one goal each from
Bryan Weber (Wyomissing, PA) and
Eric Magro. Senior
Josh Harman (Shirley, NY) added an assist. Sophomore
Jack Carney (Bethpage, NY) had a team-high four caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls and junior
Matt Barry (Patchogue, NY) made nine saves in the loss. Sophomore
Frank Krug (Perkasie, PA) had a team-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Elizabethtown (1-0 overall) was led byÂ
Mike Scrafano with four goals andÂ
Brandon Sankey with one goal and three assists.
DeSales led 3-2 late in the second quarter when the Blue Jays seized the halftime momentum as Sankey scored with just one second remaining the on the clock.
ETown then scored three straight goals out of the halftime locker room to take a 6-3 lead and the Bulldogs were unable to recover in the fourth quarter.
DeSales won 9-of-14 face-offs but committed 21 turnovers and were just 15-for-23 in clears for the game. The Blue Jays out-shot the Bulldogs, 34-23, and DeSales put just seven of its 23 shots on goal in the loss.
The Bulldogs will look to get into the win column on Wednesday, February 17th when they travel to The University of Scranton for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
