Women’s Hoops Hosts #3 King’s in MAC Freedom Semifinals Wednesday

Center Valley, PA (February 20, 2018) – The second seeded DeSales University women's basketball team will open the MAC Freedom postseason tournament on Wednesday evening hosting the #3 seed King's College in the semifinals in Billera Hall at 7:00 pm.
 
The Bulldogs (15-10, 10-4 MAC Freedom) finished in a tie for second place with King's College (15-10, 10-4 MAC Freedom) but earned the tiebreaker over the Monarchs and will host the semifinal match-up.
 
Game time is set for 7:00 pm and admission for the event will be $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for students' w/ID.  All children under the age of six are FREE.  All DeSales students will be admitted FREE of charge with their student ID.

DeSales/King's History:
These two teams have a long history and will be meeting for the 66th time on Wednesday evening.  DSU owns a 38-27 lead in the all-time series after the two teams split the season series with the home team winning each match-up.  It will also be the 10th career meeting in the MAC Freedom postseason with King's holding a 5-4 edge in the previous nine meetings.  DSU is 21-11 all-time vs. the Monarchs at home.
 
Regular Season Series
Game One at King's (KC – 55-50)
King's finished the first-half on a 12-0 run to take a 29-24 halftime lead.  DSU rallied in the fourth quarter taking a 47-44 lead before the Monarchs finished the game on an 11-3 run. DeSales shot just 32.2 percent from the field in the loss.  Junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) (11), senior Kaitlin Kelly (Newtown, PA) (10), and sophomore Molly Jansco (Newfoundland, PA) (10) all had double digits in the loss.
 
Game Two at DeSales (MU – 59-52 OT)
The Bulldogs out-scored King's, 19-11, in the fourth quarter, finishing the game on a 10-4 run to take a 61-55 decision at home.  The game featured eight ties and 14 lead changes.  DSU once again struggled from the field hitting just 31 percent but were excellent from the line converting 14-of-16.  Sterner had a game-high 25 points and junior Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Freshman Kristina Polak (Bethlehem, PA) also played well of the bench with 12 points.
 
DeSales in the MAC Freedom Postseason:
DeSales is making its 21st straight MAC Freedom Tournament appearance.  DSU joined the MAC Freedom at the start of the 1997-98 season and hasn't missed the post-season.  The Bulldogs have won six conference titles and are 21-14 all-time in the MAC Freedom postseason.
