Center Valley, PA (March 18, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team lost both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader falling to FDU-Florham, 3-0 and 6-5, in the first conference doubleheader of the season for both teams.
Game One (L/0-3 vs. FDU-Florham)
The Devils (7-9, 2-0 MAC Freedom) got a three-run home run fromÂ
Rebecca DeCarlo in the bottom of the first inning and that was all FDU needed in recording the game one win.
The Bulldogs (3-7, 0-2 MAC Freedom) couldn't get anything going offensively in the first game as just five runners reached second base in the loss. Five Bulldogs had one hit and senior
Hailey Warner took the loss in the circle going four innings allowing four hits and three runs.
Game Two (L/5-6 vs. FDU-Florham)
DeSales took a 2-0 lead with solo runs on the first and third innings as junior
Carly Benjamin knocked in a run in both the first and third innings with a single in the first and a double in the third.
Florham got three runs in the bottom of the third frame, but the Bulldogs answered right back reclaiming a 5-3 lead after a two-RBI single from freshman
Reilly Kerr and a bases loaded walk from
Ciarrah Holmqvist in the top of the fourth inning.
FDU made it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the fifth inning and in the bottom of the seventh inning walked off with a sweep after a one-out single was followed by a double to left-center who came all the way around to score on a throwing error from the DeSales catcher posting the final 6-5 margin.
Senior
Andrea Artesani took the loss allowing four earned over 6 1/3 innings scattering 11 hits.
Kerr and Benjamin each had three of DSU's 11 hits and knocked in two runs each.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when they are slated to host The College of New JerseyÂ
