Wilkes-Barre, PA (March 24, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team earned a very important MAC Freedom doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon winning both ends of a twinbill at King's College, 12-2 and 4-1.
Game One (W/12-2 vs. King's College)
The first four batters of the game for the Monarchs reached base with two coming around to score and just four batters the rest of the game reached base as senior
Hailey Warner (Warrington, PA) came in to the game in relief in the bottom of the first inning allowing just one hit over six innings, striking out five to earn her fourth win.
The offense did the rest scoring twice in the third inning tying the score at two on RBIs from freshman
Reilly Kerr (Philadelphia, PA) and sophomore
Alexa Marasheski (Philadelphia, PA).
DeSales then blew the game open scoring five times in both the fifth and sixth innings to win by the eight-run rule after six innings.
There were several outstanding offensive performances in the game one win including sophomore
Emma Izzo (Hyde Park, NY) going 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Kerr finishing 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, junior
Carly Benjamin (Glen Rock, NJ) recording two hits and scoring once, Marasheski going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, freshman C
Ciarrah Holmqvist (Bangor, PA) posting a 2-for-4 line with two runs and three RBIs, and freshman
Hallie Muffley (Walnutport, PA) knocking in three runs.
Game Two (W/4-1 vs. King's College)
Freshman
Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) turned in a terrific performance in her first-ever career collegiate start, tossing five strong innings allowing just two hits and one unearned run to earn her first collegiate win in the circle. Senior
Andrea Artesani (West Greenwich, RI) pitched two scoreless innings allowing one hit in relief.
The Bulldogs got three of their four runs in the second inning as Muffley had an RBI double and freshman
Sam Napoli (Old Bridge, NJ) and sophomore
Erin Redden (Clifton Heights, PA) each had sacrifice flies. DSU added an extra tally in the fourth as Kerr knocked in her third run of the day.
Kerr finished 2-for-4 and 6-for-8 for the day and six others had one hit in the game two win.
The Bulldogs are slated to return to action on Monday when they travel to The University of Scranton for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 pm.
