Softball Rolls past Eastern for MAC Freedom DH Sweep

Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team recorded its second straight MAC Freedom sweep, eight-running Eastern University in both ends of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.

Game One (W/8-0 vs. Eastern University)
Senior Hailey Warner (Warrington, PA) was nearly unhittable in the circle in game one firing a two-hit shutout, striking out 10 to earn her fifth win of the season.

The DeSales offense did the rest scoring in four of the six innings. Freshman Hallie Muffley (Walnutport, PA) and sophomore Leann Panconi (Kendall Park, NJ) each had RBI singles in the second inning, sophomore Alexa Marasheski (Philadelphia, PA) made it 3-0 with an RBI groundout in the third, and junior Carly Benjamin (Glen Rock, NJ) had an RBI in the fifth inning to put the Bulldogs up 4-0.

In the sixth, DSU finished off the game one win as Panconi had an RBI double and freshman Reilly Kerr (Philadelphia, PA) provided the exclamation point with a bases clearing, game-ending double.

Kerr finished 3-for-4 with those three RBIs, sophomore Emma Izzo (Hyde Park, NY) scored three runs, Muffley finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Panconi had two hits and two RBIs.

Game Two (W/10-2 vs. Eastern University)
The Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning but exploded for six runs in the bottom half as Kerr blasted a three-run home run and Panconi knocked in two with an RBI single highlighting the first inning.

DSU added two more runs in the third inning on an RBI single from Izzo and a sacrfice fly from Benjamin before DeSales scored two more runs in the sixth inning on a two-out Eagle error to end the game.

Senior Andrea Artesani (West Greenwich, RI) earned the win pitching a complete-game allowing three hits and one just one earned run, striking out six.

Kerr had another three hits and knocked in three more runs. Izzo had two hits and scored twice, freshman Ciarrah Holmqvist (Bangor, PA) had two hits in game two, while freshman Caitlyn Newsom (Mount Royal, NJ) and Panconi each also had two hits with Newsom scoring twice and Panconi knocking in two more runs.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they travel crosstown to Moravian College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
