Baseball Opens Weekend Series with 10-5 Win at King's

Wilkes-Barre, PA (March 23, 2018) - Junior Charlie Barebo (Emmaus, PA) had three hits and scored three times and sophomore Ryan Passaro (Wayne, NJ) earned four-inning save leading the DeSales University baseball team past King's College, 10-5, in the first of three games this weekend.

Barebo scored in the first inning giving the Bulldogs (7-8, 2-1 MAC Freedom) a 1-0 lead after walking, stealing second base, and scoring on a single from junior Aaron Fritz (Pottsville, PA).  The Monarchs (5-7, 1-2 MAC Freedom) got an unearned run in the bottom of the first to tie the score before DSU reclaimed the advantage with another solo run in the top of the second on an RBI single from Barebo.

It remained a 2-1 game into the fourth when DeSales exploded for five runs getting RBIs from sophomore Sergio Diaz (Waldwick, NJ) and junior Conner Lafferty (Langhorne, PA), while also scoring two of its five runs on wild pitches.

King's answered with two runs in bottom of the frame but the Bulldogs put the game out of reach with three runs in the fifth on RBI hits from Barebo, Fritz, and Lafferty.

Senior Adam Donovan (Somers, CT) earned the win pitching five strong innings allowing just two earned runs and five hits.  Passaro did the rest allowing just two hits and one earned over the final four innings to record the save.

Barebo finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Fritz had two hits and two RBIs, junior Tommy Epsaro (Bethlehem, PA) had a double and a triple in the win, and sophomore Michael White (Clinton, NJ) finished with two hits and three runs scored.

Tomorrow's DH was moved up to King's as a result of the Bulldogs field still being under snow cover.  DSU will be the home team for both teams with first pitch set for 1:00 pm.
