Baseball Splits at King's; Win Two of Three in Weekend Series

Wilkes-Barre, PA (March 24, 2018) - The DeSales University baseball team scored a run in each of the last four innings splitting a MAC Freedom doubleheader at King's College dropping game one, 5-3, before winning game two 5-4 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon.

Game One (L/3-5 vs. King's College)
King's College scored three two-out runs in the top of the sixth inning erasing a 3-2 deficit to take game one.

The Bulldogs (8-9, 3-2 MAC Freedom) had a 2-0 lead in the second inning when sophomore Sergio Diaz (Waldwick, NJ) and junior Nick White (The Woodlands, TX) each had RBI singles.  The Monarchs (6-8, 2-3 MAC Freedom) tied the game with two tallies in the top of the third but the Bulldogs reclaimed a one-run advantage in the bottom of the third as freshman Cody Mish (Mohrsville, PA) singled and came around to score on an error by the Monarch pitcher.

After easily recording the first two outs in the sixth inning, King's rattled off five straight hits including two triples and a double off three different Bulldog pitchers to take a 5-3 lead.

Junior Austin Kroeger (Farmingdale, NJ) took the loss allowing two hits and two runs.  Senior Andrew Schuler (Collegeville, PA) took another no-decision scattering five hits and three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings.

Junior Aaron Fritz (Pottsville, PA), senior Randal Pacchioli (Catasauqua, PA), and White all had two hits in game one.

Game Two (W/5-4 (8) vs. King's College)
After exchanging runs in the third inning, the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on an RBI single from sophomore Michael White (Clinton, NJ).

The Monarchs took control in the top of the sixth scoring three times to lead 4-2 before DeSales scored once in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to walk-off with the win and takinig two out of three in the weekend series.

DeSales tied the game in the seventh when a high pop-up with two outs in the seventh was allowed to drop just behind the mound allowing junior Preston Amato (Center Valley, PA) to scamper home with the tying run from second base.  After the Bulldogs stranded first and second and no one out in the top of the eighth inning, N. White tripled to lead off the bottom half and came around to scored on a bunt single from junior Charlie Barebo (Emmaus, PA).

Junior Felix Martinez Jr. (Allentown, PA) earned the win pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.  Freshman Ian Kacergis (Sellersville, PA) started and lasted five innings allowing three earned and striking out seven.

Barebo, Mish, and M. White each had three hits, Diaz had two base knocks, and N. White finished game two, 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday hosting Montclair State University at 3:30 pm.
