Schuler's One-Hitter Leads Baseball Sweep of Eastern

St. David's, PA (March 31, 2018) - Senior Andrew Schuler pitched a one-hit complete-game shutout in game one leading the DeSales University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Eastern University on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs took all three from the Eagles in the season series.

Game One (W/2-0 vs. Eastern)
Schuler was dominating in game one as he allowed just one hit and four base-runners with no one reaching second base to earn the win.  He struck out 10, retired the side in order in each of the last three innings and finished the game recording 10 straight outs.

It was a scoreless game into the top of the fifth inning when DeSales struck first taking advantage of an Eagle error scoring the game's first run on an RBI single from junior Charlie Barebo.  DSU added an insurance run in the sixth when junior Aaron Fritz hit a leadoff home run.

Barebo finished with two hits as the Bulldogs had just five themselves in the game one win.

Game Two (W/10-1 vs. Eastern)
A tie game at one entering the third inning, DSU broke it open scoring four runs in the third, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth to pull away for the sweep.

In the third freshman Cody Mish and junior Preston Amato knocked in one run, while sophomore Sergio Diaz had a two-RBI single.  Junior Tommy Epsaro hit a solo home run in the fifth, his fourth dinger of the week, and sophomore Chase Williams and sophomore Evan Plummer each had RBIs in the sixth.

Freshman Ian Kacergis earned the win going four innings allowing seven hits and one run, striking out five.

Barebo finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and Amato had two hits and two runs scored in the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Rutgers-Newark beginning at 3:30 pm.
