Kissimmee, FL (March 4, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team opened the 2018 season splitting two games on day one of its Spring Break trip to Florida falling to Ohio Northern, 2-0, and defeating Heidelberg University, 10-2.
Game One (L/0-2 vs. Ohio Northern)
A scoreless game thru three innings, ONU (1-0) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Bulldogs (1-1) walked three of the first four batters in the inning. DSU loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth inning but were unable to push any runs across to drop the season opener.
Senior
Andrea Artesani (West Greenwich, RI) took the loss allowing two runs over five innings, walking six and striking out four. Sophomore
Erin Redden (Clifton Heights, PA) and junior
Carly Benjamin (Glen Rock, NJ) each had one hit in the loss.
Game Two (W/10-2 vs. Heidelberg)
Once again a scoreless game thru three innings was broken open late by the Bulldogs. DSU scored three in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead on RBI singles from Benjamin, Artesani, and sophomore
Emma Izzo (Hyde Park, NY).
After HU got two back in the top of the fifth, DeSales put the game away scoring seven times in the bottom half to win 10-2. Sophomore

Hallie Muffley (Walnutport, PA), Artesani, Izzo, and freshman
Julianna Henderson (Rocklin, CA) all had RBIs in the fifth.
Freshman
Reilly Kerr (Philadelphia, PA), Henderson, Muffley, and Artesani each had two hits in the game two win. Senior
Hailey Warner (Warrington, PA) got the win in the circle allowing just one earned run over five innings, striking out three.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow taking on Emerson College and Defiance College on Monday morning.
