Winter Haven, FL (March 5, 2018) - Senior
Randal Pacchioli (Catasauqua, PA) hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning lifting the DeSales University baseball team past Concordia College (MN) in the first game of its spring trip to Winter Haven, FL on Sunday evening.
The Bulldogs (4-3) took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as junior
Aaron Fritz (Pottsville, PA), junior
Preston Amato (Center Valley, PA), and sophomore
Sergio Diaz (Waldwick, NJ) all had RBI hits in the first inning. Concordia scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth, and once in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead before DeSales got one back in the sixth on an RBI single from freshman
Sean Hanczaryk (Frenchtown, NJ).
DSU tied it in the eighth on an RBI double from Amato as the game moved into extra innings.
In the top of the 11th, Concordia took a 7-6 lead, but DeSales was able to tie it in the bottom half on a double steal with two outs.
After retiring the Concordia side in order in the 12th, junior
Charlie Barebo (Emmaus, PA) singled to leadoff the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from freshman
Brandon DiChiacchio (Springfield, PA) when DiChiacchio collided with the first baseman on the play allowing Barebo to scamper to third base. Pacchioli then delivered the sacrifice fly to right field scoring Barebo with the winning run.
Barebo had two hits and scored three times. Fritz, Amato, and senior
Conner Lafferty (Langhorne, PA) also each had two hits in the win. Sophomore
PJ Elsner (West Hartford, CT) earned the win pitching a scoreless 12th, striking out one.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they take on Mt. Union in the second game of the trip.
