Winter Haven, FL (March 6, 2018) - The DeSales University baseball team dropped its second straight game falling to WPI, 11-8, on the Bulldogs' second game of its spring trip on Tuesday afternoon.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Bulldogs (4-5) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning scoring on a WPI error and a sacrifice fly from junior
Tommy Epsaro (Bethlehem, PA).
WPI (3-1) then took control scoring four unearned runs without a hit in the bottom of the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead.
DSU added a run in the sixth on a solo home run from junior
Aaron Fritz (Pottsville, PA), one more in the seventh on another WPI error, and twice in both the eighth and the ninth. Sophomore
Sergio Diaz (Waldwick, NJ) had a two-RBI single in the eighth and Diaz and sophomore
Michael White (Clinton, NJ) had RBIs in the ninth.
Senior
Conner Lafferty (Langhorne, PA) finished with two hits and two runs scored in the loss. Freshman
Cody Mish (Mohrsville, PA) also had two hits and Diaz knocked in three runs.
The Bulldogs are right back to action on Wednesday taking on Mitchell College.
