Kissimmee, FL (March 7, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team split two games on its third day of competition on Wednesday morning defeating Bridgewater College (VA), 6-5, before falling to local rival Muhlenberg College, 13-5, in the second game.
Game One (W/6-5 vs. Bridgewater-VA)
Senior
Hailey Warner (Warrington, PA) made just one mistake allowing a three-run home run in the fifth inning but was otherwise dominant in the circle earning her second win of the year scattering eight hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking just two in DSU's 6-5 win over BC.
DSU (2-4) scored three times in the second inning as sophomore
Emma Izzo (Hyde Park, NY) delivered a two-out, two-RBI single and freshman
Kristen Suran (Plainview, NY) also had an RBI single.
After Bridgewater pulled to within 4-3 in the fifth, freshman
Hallie Muffley (Walnutport, PA) and Suran each had RBI singles in the fifth to make it a 6-3 game and Warner did the rest.
Sophomore
Erin Redden (Clifton Heights, PA) continued her hot hitting with three more hits, while Izzo, junior
Carly Benjamin (Glen Rock, NJ), Muffley, senior
Andrea Artesani (West Greenwich, RI), and Suran all each had two hits in the game one win.
Game Two (L/5-13 vs. Muhlenberg)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double from Benjamin but the Mules scored three times in the second to take a 3-1 lead. DSU tied the game at three with solo runs in the fourth and fifth on RBI hits from Redden and freshman
Reilly Kerr (Philadelphia, PA).
Muhlenberg then took control scoring four unearned runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth inning to post the eight-run win.
Redden stayed hot at the plate with three more hits and had two RBIs. Izzo was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Kerr had two hits. Freshman
Ciarrah Holmqvist (Bangor, PA) finished 3-for-3 with two hits and Muffley added two more hits as part of a 13-hit attack in the loss.
Four Bulldog pitchers combined to issue 10 walks in the loss. Sophomore
Shannon Hill (Harleysville, PA) did pitch despite taking the loss allowing just two unearned runs over three innings of work.
The Bulldogs wrap-up its trip tomorrow taking on Baldwin-Wallace University and Simmons College.
