Hailey Warner (Warrington, PA) was the story tossing a 5-inning no-hitter as the DeSales University softball team split its final two games of its spring break trip on Thursday evening.
Game One (L/9-12 vs. Baldwin-Wallace)
After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning the Bulldogs (3-5) rallied to score five times in the second inning taking a 5-4 lead. Freshman
Julia Testagrose (North Bellmore, NY) had an RBI single and sophomore
Erin Redden (Clifton Heights, PA) and freshman
Reilly Kerr (Philadelphia, PA) each knocked in two runs in the inning.
Baldwin-Wallace answered with five runs of its own in the top of the third chasing starter
Andrea Artesani (West Greenwich, RI). DeSales trailed 12-6 in the sixth inning when DSU got half the deficit back in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI double from freshman
Kristen Suran (Plainview, NY) and BWC error but were unable to complete the rally in the seventh, falling 12-9.
Kerr had two hits to lead the eight-hit attack and freshman
Ciarrah Holmqvist (Bangor, PA) scored three times. Artesani took the loss allowing seven earned runs over three innings. Sophomore
Shannon Hill (Harleysville, PA) did pitch well in relief allowing just one earned over four innings.
Game Two (W/13-0 vs. Simmons)
Warner allowed just three base runners (two walks and an error) and struck out six tossing a five-inning no-hitter in the second game of the day.
The Bulldogs gave her plenty of offense to work with scoring five times in the first and third innings and three times in the second frame.
Junior
Carly Benjamin (Glen Rock, NJ) and Kerr each had three hits with Benjamin knocking in four runs and hitting her first homer of the season and Kerr pushing two runs across the plate and scoring three times. Sophomore
Emma Izzo (Hyde Park, NY) finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored, freshman
Hallie Muffley (Walnutport, PA) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Holmqvist had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs in the game two win.
The Bulldogs return home now and will get back to action on March 17th when they host Montclair State University.
