Softball Splits Doubleheader with #18 Kean

Center Valley, PA (April 12, 2018) - The DeSales University softball split a non-conference doubleheader with #18 Kean University taking game one, 9-4, before dropping the second, 4-2, on a windy Thursday afternoon.

Game One (W/9-4)
After Kean took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning, DSU exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control of game one.  Freshman Hallie Muffley (Walnutport, PA) had an RBI double, sophomore Leann Panconi (Kendall Park, NJ) a two-RBI single, and sophomore Alexa Marasheski (Philadelphia, PA) another RBI single as the Bulldogs also capitalized on a Cougar error to take a 7-2 lead.

KU got one run back in the sixth but a solo home run from Panconi and an RBI double from Marasheski made it 9-3 before the final tally was posted.

Senior Andrea Artesani (West Greenwich, RI) earned the win pitching seven strong innings allowing seven hits and three earned, while striking out six.

Sophomore Emma Izzo (Hyde Park, NY) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Panconi was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  Marasheski and sophomore Erin Redden (Clifton Heights, PA) also each had two hits in the game one win.

Game Two (L/2-4)
DSU took a 2-0 lead early playing a run in the first on an RBI double from Marasheski and one in the second on an RBI single from Izzo.

It remained a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning when Kean got two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead and DeSales was unable to score again.

Senior Hailey Warner (Warrington, PA) took the loss allowing four runs over 5 2/3 innings, despite striking out 10 batters.

Marasheski had two more hits as all but one starter had a hit for the Bulldogs.
