Dallas, PA (April 14, 2018) - The DeSales University softball split a MAC Freedom doubleheader at Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon taking game one, 10-2, before dropping game two, 10-3.
Game One (W/10-2)
DSU took a 4-0 lead in the first inning as freshman Riley Kerr laced a two-RBI double to left center, later scored on a Cougar error, and freshman
Ciarrah Holmqvist knocked in the fourth run with an RBI single.
The lead swelled to 8-0 in the fourth when Kerr knocked in another run with an RBI single and sophomore
Alexa Marasheski hit a three-run home run.
After MU got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, DSU put two more on the board in the fifth on a two-run home run from sophomore
Leann Panconi.
Senior
Hailey Warner did the rest, pitching five strong innings allowing just three hits and one earned run, striking out two.
Kerr finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, sophomore
Erin Redden had three hits and scored twice, and sophomore
Emma Izzo, Marasheski, Holmqvist, senior
Andrea Artesani, and Panconi all had two hits as part of a 16-hit attack.
Game Two (L/3-10)
MU struck first in game two scoring six runs, four of which were unearned, in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-0 lead. The lead grew to seven in the third inning before DeSales finally got on the board with three tallies in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run double from Panconi and sacrifice fly from Redden.
Misericordia answered DSU's three-spot with one in the bottom half of the fourth and two more in the fifth and DeSales was unable to threaten over the final three innings.
Freshman
Hallie Muffley had two hits, the only Bulldogs with multiple hits in game two. Artesani took the loss in the circle.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to be back in action on Monday when they host Elizabethtown College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
