Women's Lacrosse Comeback Falls Just Short in 19-18 OT Loss at Eastern

St. David's, PA (April 14, 2018) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team came up just short in its comeback bid falling to Eastern University, 19-18, in overtime in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Eastern - 19, DeSales - 18 (OT)
  • Records: DeSales (4-7, 1-2 MAC Freedom); Eastern (4-6, 2-1 MAC Freedom)
How it Happened
  • Eastern scored the first three goals of the game and had a 5-1 lead that stood into the half with the Eagles holding an 8-4 advantage at the break.
  • The Bulldogs came out strong in the second-half scoring four of the first five goals to pull within 9-8 as four different players tickled the nylon.
  • EU regained its four-goal advantage at 14-10 before the Bulldogs scored five of the next six goals to tie the game at 15 with 7:42 to go.
  • Two straight goals from Eastern gave the hosts a 17-15 lead before freshman Julia Astram scored two straight to tie the game at 17 and fellow freshman Eilis McCall scored with 1:29 left giving DSU its first lead of the game at 18-17.
  • Eastern won the draw and called timeout.  Out of the timeout the Eagles tied the game with 29 seconds left sending the game into overtime.
  • In the overtime period, EU was again able to win the draw and Julie Haggan won the game 1:39 into the extra period.
Top Bulldog Performers For the Foes
  • Megan Kosmides led the Eagles with five goals.
  • Jazzlyn Sullivan and Haggan each had four goals and two assists.
  • Sabrini Campbell finished with three goals and an assist.
  • Kosmides had 12 draw controls.
  • Sam Brennan finished with 10 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
  • Marcie Spencer had 12 saves.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales out-shot Eastern, 41-33, and had a slim 28-27 advantage in ground balls.
  • Eastern had a 22-17 advantage in draw controls.
