Baseball Sweeps Delaware Valley; Clinches Spot in MAC Freedom Postseason

Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2018) - The DeSales University baseball team won both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader, 7-2 and 6-2, over Delaware Valley University clinching a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament coming up in two weeks.

The Bulldogs clinch its ninth straight and 19th overall spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.  DSU also improves to 20-12 overall and 13-3 in the MAC Freedom.  It is the 19th straight season and the 24th time in the last 25 years DeSales has posted a 20+ win season.

Game One (W/7-2)
The Bulldogs jumped on the Aggies early scoring four runs in the first inning and two more times in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.  Junior Charlie Barebo singled, stole second, and scored on an error and junior Nick White had an RBI double to go along with one more Aggie error to plate four in the first.  In the second junior Preston Amato and sophomore Sergio Diaz each had RBI doubles to post the 6-0 early lead.

DVU got two runs in the top of the sixth inning before Barebo added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to post the final tally.

Freshman Ian Kacergis earned the win going six strong allowing just four hits and two runs, striking out three.

Amato finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Barebo had two more hits and scored twice.

Game Two (W/6-2)
A scoreless game entering the third inning DSU plated solo runs in the third and fourth to take a 2-0 lead before plating three in the fifth to break the game open.  Junior Tommy Epsaro had an RBI single, freshman Cody Mish knocked in a run with a base hit, N. White had a two-RBI double, and freshman Sean Hanczaryk hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

The lead was 6-0 before Delaware Valley got two runs in the top of the seventh to provide the final margin.

Senior Jack Moore earned the win pitching 4 2/3 shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing just three hits.  N. White had three hits, while junior Aaron Fritz, Mish, and Amato each had two hits.

The Bulldogs are back on the diamond on Monday traveling to FDU-Florham for a MAC Freedom tilt beginning at 3:30 pm.
