Strong First Quarter Propels Men's Lacrosse Past King's, 12-8

Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2018) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team out-scored King's College, 5-2 in the first quarter and led the rest of the way in a 12-8 victory over the Monarchs in MAC Freedom action on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • After King's scored the first goal of the game, DSU scored three straight to take a 3-1 lead and finished the quarter with two goals in the 12 seconds to take a commanding 5-2 lead.
  • DSU extended its lead to four at the half out-scoring the Aggies, 3-2 in the second quarter.
  • The lead swelled to six after DeSales opened the half with the first two goals before King's scored four of the next five tallies to pull within six late in the fourth quarter before the Bulldogs put the icing on the cake on a goal from senior Joe Neggia.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Eric Magro led the Bulldogs in scoring with three goals and an assist for four points.
  • Senior Bryan Weber scored three times and Neggia and freshman Zac Bowen each had two goals.
  • Freshman Matt Motto totaled one goal and two assists, senior Tommy Friedman added a goal, and senior Josh Harman had two assists.
  • Freshman Colin Corrado won 10-of-19 face-offs and sophomore Frank Krug had a team-high five ground balls.
  • Sophomore Jack Carney had a team-best three caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Vincent Groelly made seven saves in between the pipes.
For the Foes
  • Shawn Dickey led King's with three goals and one assist and Brett O'Neill 
  • Jaredn Gambino, Brian Steiger, and Omar Nijmeh each had a goal.
  • Nick Foley won 11-of-22 face-offs an had six ground balls.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales out-shot King's, 23-19 and had a slim 24-21 advantage in ground balls.
  • There were only two failed clears all game between both teams.
