Softball Swept by Wilkes; Earns #2 seed in MAC Freedom Postseason

Center Valley, PA (April 28, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday afternoon falling to Wilkes University, 6-2 and 7-0, in final conference games of the regular season.

Despite the sweep the Bulldogs earn the #2 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament set for next weekend at King's College and will take on the #3 seed, Misericordia University, in the opening round.  The tournament starts on Friday morning at King's College with more details to follow this week.

Game One (L/2-6)
The Bulldogs fell behind early as the Colonels scored twice in both the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead.

DeSales fought back with runs in the fourth and fifth on an RBI single from freshman Hallie Muffley and a solo home run from junior Leann Panconi to pull within 4-2 but Wilkes tallied two more in the seventh and DeSales was unable to get any closer.

Senior Hailey Warner took the loss allowing four runs and six hits over 3 1/3 innings, striking out four.

Freshman Riley Kerr had two hits in game one.

Game Two (L/0-7)
Wilkes scored three runs in the second inning and broke it open with two each in the fourth and fifth frames to take a 7-0 lead and never looked back.

Senior Andrea Artesani suffered the loss allowing five runs over four innings.  DSU had just three hits, singles from sophomore Erin Redden, freshman Ciarrah Holmqvist, and Panconi.

The Bulldogs finish up the regular season slate with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Scranton tomorrow beginning at 1:00 pm.
