Softball Closes Regular Season with DH Split at Scranton

Scranton, PA (April 29, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team finished up its 2018 regular season splitting a non-conference doubleheader at The University of Scranton winning game one, 8-6, before dropping game two, 8-6.

Game One (W/8-6)
The Bulldogs took this one in dramatic fashion as freshman Ciarrah Holmqvist hit an inside the park two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie at six.

DSU took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third with a solor run in the second inning when Holmqvist tripled and scored one batter later and a two-RBI single from freshman Reilly Kerr and another RBI single from Holmqvist in the third.

The leaded extended to 6-3 in the sixth when the Bulldogs plated two more runs but the Royals tied the game at six in the bottom half of the inning setting up the seventh inning heroics from Holmqvist.

Senior Hailey Warner earned her ninth win of the year scattering 10 hits over seven innings. Holmqvist finished 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.  Sophomore Alexa Marasheski and senior Andrea Artesani each had two hits in the game one win.

Game Two (L/6-8)
DeSales fell behind 7-0 early as UoS scored five times in the first inning and twice in the second inning.

Still trailing by seven entering the fourth inning the Bulldogs got four runs back on an RBI groundout from freshman Sam Napoli, two-RBI double from sophomore Madison Sias, and an RBI single from junior Sunny Greenberg.

DSU pulled within a run in the fifth as Holmqvist delivered an RBI triple and freshman Hallie Muffley had a sacrifice fly.

Scranton piled on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning and DeSales was unable to get any closer.

Sophomore Shannon Hill pitched well in relief allowing just one run over 4 1/3 innings.
