Baseball Sweeps Wilkes; Clinches Top Seed in MAC Freedom Tournament

Center Valley, PA (April 29, 2018) - The DeSales University baseball team completed its series sweep of Wilkes University on Sunday afternoon with wins by 3-0 and 18-1 to earn the top seed in next weekend's MAC Freedom Postseason Tournament.

The Bulldogs will be the top seed with play set to open on Friday afternoon at Owl's Field in West Lawn, PA.  Complete details and schedule will be determined mid-week.

Game One (W/3-0)
In a game that started at Wilkes on Saturday before being rained out in the second inning with DSU leading 1-0 on a solo home run from junior Aaron Fritz, the Bulldogs tacked on two more runs including one in the fourth on a Colonel error and another in the seventh on a walk, stolen base, and two more Wilkes errors to finish off the 3-0 win.

Senior Adam Donovan earned the win pitching 5 1/3 shutout innings allowing just five hits and striking out four.  Junior Austin Kroeger earned a save getting the last five outs, striking out two.

Junior Preston Amato and Fritz each had two hits in the game one win.

Game Two (W/18-1)
The Bulldogs scored in each of the first six innings putting the exclamation point on the series sweep with a nine-run sixth inning that featured nine walks, a hit batter, and Colonel error.

Eight of the nine starters had hits with freshman Cody Mish going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, freshman Sean Hanczaryk knocking in two runs, sophomore Sergio Diaz and junior Tommy Epsaro each went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, junior Nick White scored three times, and sophomore Evan Plummer finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Senior Andrew Schuler earned the win pitching seven shutout frames allowing just two hits and striking out six.

DeSales is in action twice this week traveling to local rival Muhlenberg College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action.
