Purchase, NY (April 7, 2018) - The DeSales University baseball team completed the three-game weekend sweep of Manhattanville College taking both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in MAC Freedom action by scores of 6-4 and 7-0.
Game One (W/6-4)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on two walks, three stolen bases, and a Valiant throwing error and extended its lead to 6-0 in the fifth scoring five times. Freshman
Cody Mish had a sacrifice fly, junior
Preston Amato had an RBIÂ double, and sophomore
Sergio Diaz provided the exclamation point hitting a three-run home run to cap off DSU's scoring.
Manhattanville got four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth but that was it as senior
Andrew Schuler earned the win going 5 2/3 innings allowing six hits and striking out eight. Senior
Konner Schneider earned his third save of the year with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Six different players had hits in the game one win as DSU stole seven bases.
Game Two (W/7-0)
Freshman
Ian Kacergis was the story in game two tossing a four-hit complete-game shutout, striking out three and only allowing six base-runners and only two to reach second base in the game.
DSU scored twice in the first inning as senior
Conner Lafferty knocked in two runs with a single, two more in the fourth on a two-RBI single from Mish, one more in the fifth on an RBI single from junior
Nick White, and two unearned runs in the sixth on Valiant fielding error.
Junior
Charlie Barebo, Mish, and N. White each had two hits in game two as Barebo and Mish each scored twice. It was Kacergis third win of the season and his first career complete-game.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Rutgers-Camden, putting their eight-game win streak on the line.
