Grantham, PA (September 14, 2018) - The DeSales University volleyball team lost a tough five set match to York College (PA) in the opening match of the Messiah College Invitational on Friday evening.

The Basics

• Final Score: York - 3, DeSales - 2 (25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 19-25, 13-15)
• Records: DeSales (6-4, 1-0 MAC Freedom); York (4-4 overall)

How it Happened

• The Bulldogs hit .289 and .293 in the first and third set but struggled in the other three sets dropping a tight five setter to the Spartans.
• DSU trailed 8-3 in the fifth but fought back to take a 12-11 lead.  The match was tied at 13 before YC earned the final two points on Spartan kills to earn the win.

Top Bulldog Performers

• Senior Gabby Savite` finished with 20 kills and 11 digs and sophomore Grace Merritt had 14 kills.
• Junior Morghan Shoemaker finished with eight kills and six blocks.
• Freshman Audrey Wolfe finished with 49 assists and 15 digs.
• Junior Taylor Aron had a strong match with 14 digs.

For the Foes

• Madyson Whitcomb had a team-high 16 kills.
• Alexis Harbold finished with 36 digs.

• The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they face College of New Rochelle and Messiah College on day two of the Messiah College Invitational.
