Jordan's 30 Lead #21 DeSales to Ninth Straight Win, 84-56 over Manhattanville

Center Valley, PA (January 16, 2019) - Freshman Averi Jordan scored a season-high 30 points leading the #21 DeSales University women's basketball team to its ninth straight win, 84-56, over Manhattanville College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs were quick out of the gates scoring the first 15 points of the game to take a 15-0 lead six minutes into the game.
  • DSU then struggled to find the bottom of the net shooting just 30.9% in the first-half as the Valiants chipped away at the lead.
  • MVC got within six points once before DeSales took a 32-21 lead into the halftime locker room after a three late in the second quarter from freshman Samantha Shinkus.
  • The Bulldogs found its stroke in the second-half shooting 51.9% over the final 20 minutes to pull away from the Valiants.
  • Another 15-0 run after DSU led by nine early in the third quarter gave the hosts a 47-23 lead with Jordan scoring six points.
  • Manhattanville cut the margin down to 16 points three times in the fourth quarter but DeSales scored 17 of the final 22 points to pull away with the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Jordan shot 8-for-15 from the field and was 12-for-15 from the charity stripe.  She added nine rebounds.
  • Shinkus also posted a season-high with 21 points and added eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
  • Senior Morgan Birmelin added 12 points and five assists, while fellow senior Bridget Walsh finished with a game-high 14 rebounds and blocked four shots.
  • Freshman Rylie Rittenhouse came off the bench to scored eight points and grab eight rebounds.
For the Foes
  • Spencer Shore had a good shooting night hitting five 3's for a team-high 16 points and added nine rebounds.
  • Sarah Coutu finished with 12 points and Kayleah McGuire had 11 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales dominated the glass out-rebounding Manhattanville, 53-26, and out-scored the Valiants 40-14 inside the paint.
  • DSU forced 20 turnovers and scored 26 points off those miscues.
  • The Bulldogs opened the game just 1-for-4 from the free throw line but made 22 of its last 23 to finish the game shooting 85.2 percent from the line.

  • DeSales is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Misericordia University who is undefeated on the season and tied atop the MAC Freedom standings with the Bulldogs.  Game time is set for Noon (NOTE TIME CHANGE).
