Morgan Birmelin scored a game-high 19 points leading the #18 DeSales University women's basketball team past #25 Misericordia University, 68-59, in MAC Freedom action on Monday evening at the Anderson Center.

How it Happened
- Both teams shot well in the first-quarter as the Bulldogs hit three 3's to take a 21-17 lead thru the first 10 minutes.
- The second quarter was a different story as both teams defense took over as each squad shot below 20% in the next 10 minutes as DSU finished the half 1-for-15 from the field and clinging to a 30-27 lead.
- The third quarter was another defensive battle as the two teams combined to score just 24 points and DeSales led by five (43-38) entering the final stanza.
- Leading by just three (49-46) at the 6:54 mark the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run highlighted by Birmelin who had three assists and one steal giving DSU a 57-46 lead.
- The advantage grew to as many as 12 points before the final tally was posted and DSU had a win over its second ranked team of the season.
Top Bulldog Performers
- Birmelin finished with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the charity stripe and added seven assists and four steals.
- Freshman Samantha Shinkus added 12 points and four steals.
- Senior Bridget Walsh notched a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and her one block tied her for the all-time record at DeSales with 156 rejections.
- Sophomore Isabel Caruso also gave DSU a boost scoring 11 points and swiping four steals.
For the Foes
- Misericordia was led Tessa Zamolyi with 15 points and eight rebounds.
- Paige Wampole added a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.
- Erica Haefele finished with 10 points.
Inside the Box Score
- DeSales forced 26 Cougar turnovers leading to 27 points.
- Misericordia won the battle of the boards out-rebounding DeSales, 52-46.
- Both teams struggled shooting in a matchup of two of the best defensive teams in the country shooting 31.9 percent (DeSales) and 31.0 percent (Misericordia).
- The Bulldogs hit 17-for-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line.
