Riccardi Header with Four Seconds Left in Second OT Lifts Women's Soccer past Montclair State, 2-1

Montclair, NJ (October 1, 2019) - Sophomore Sam Riccardi headed home her first goal of the season with just four seconds left in the second OT lifting the DeSales University women's soccer team past Montclair State University, 2-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

  • The win is the sixth straight for DeSales, one shy of tying the all-time record for consecutive wins.
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute of the game when freshman Katie Padgett knocked home the rebound of a shot off the post from fellow freshman Meghan Foley.
  • The one goal lead remained into the 71st minute when the Red Hawks equaled the score as the game headed into overtime deadlocked at one.
  • MSU had the only two shots in the first OT period but neither team scored sending the game to a second extra session.
  • With about 30 seconds left in the game and the second OT, freshman Sam Monteforte created a corner kick.
  • Sophomore Meghan Corbran hustled over to take the corner and sent a perfect pass into the box where Riccardi was waiting heading the ball inside the near post with just four seconds left in the game for the game-winner.

  • The goal was Riccardi's first of the season, while Padgett netted her fourth.
  • Corbran and Foley both had the second assist each of the season.
  • Junior Lia Gaccione had four saves in the win.
