Shoemaker Sets New Block Assist Mark in 3-0 Win over SUNY-Canton

Center Valley, PA (October 11, 2019) - Senior Morghan Shoemaker tallied one block assist setting a new program record leading the DeSales University volleyball team past SUNY-Canton, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-19), on Friday evening in Billera Hall.

  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, SUNY-Canton - 0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-19)
  • Records: DeSales (9-13 overall); SUNY-Canton (3-16)
  • Shoemaker recorded her lone block assist in the second set, the 286th of her career moving into first place all-time and surpassing Paige Horrigan's old mark of 285.
How it Happened
  • DSU broke open a close first set with nine straight points with the set tied at 11 to take a 20-11 lead and never looked back.
  • In the second set, Canton led led 14-10, but DSU scored eight of nine points down 16-13 to take a 21-17 lead and ultimately the set.
  • The third set featured five ties and three lead changes but the Bulldogs had two four point runs that Canton was unable to recover from in the loss.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Freshman Delanie Zohler had a team-high nine kills and fellow freshman Caroline Garretson finished with seven kills in the win.
  • Shoemaker had five kills and that lone block.
  • Sophomore Audrey Wolfe finished with four kills, 29 assists, and 13 digs.
  • Senior Cristal Fernandez added 12 digs in the win.
For the Foes
  • Tatum Lafrance, Marissa Ixtlahuac, and Skye Hansen all had six kills.
  • Jenna Roat finished with 18 digs.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales hit .230 for the match as compared to just .049 for the Kangaroos.
