Volleyball Splits Two Matches on Day Two of Home Quad

Center Valley, PA (October 12, 2019) - The DeSales University volleyball team split two matches on day two of its home quad falling to #14 Juniata College in the opener before defeating Cabrini University in the second match of the day.

Match #1 (L/1-3 vs. #14 Juniata - 25-23, 15-25, 13-25, 14-25)
The Bulldogs came out strong hitting .344 in the opening set to take a 25-23 win over the 14th ranked team in the country.  Tied at 23 late, DSU won the final two points on a kill from freshman Delanie Zohler and a block assist from freshman Caroline Garretson and junior Grace Merritt to close out the set.

The Eagles turned up their dial from that point forward winning the final three sets convincingly to take the match in four.

Senior Morghan Shoemaker led the offensive attack with 10 kills and added six blocks.  Zohler finished with eight kills and freshman Diane Pugay added seven kills.

Senior Cristal Fernandez totaled 26 digs, while freshman McKenzie Brady and sophomore Georgia Traynor had 12 and nine digs respectively.  Sophomore Audrey Wolfe totaled 30 assists and three blocks.

Match #2 (W/3-0 vs. Cabrini - 25-22, 25-18, 25-14)
A tight first set saw DeSales break a tie at 20 winning five of the last seven points to take the opening set.  From that point forward it was all DeSales as the Bulldogs had just three hitting errors in the second set and hit .273 in the third set to take the match in three.

Zohler was outstanding finishing with 10 kills and a .321 hitting percentage.  Shoemaker added seven kills and hit .333 and Garretson had six kills on just eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage.

Fernandez finished with 28 digs, while Brady had five aces and five digs.  Wolfe tallied 31 assists and also had four kills.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Misericordia University in a very important MAC Freedom contest beginning at 7:00 pm in Billera Hall.
