Women's Soccer Dominates but Settles for 2-2 Draw at Eastern

St. David's, PA (October 12, 2019) - The DeSales University women's soccer team controlled the flow of play but had to settle for a 2-2 two overtime draw at Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 2, Eastern - 2 (2 OT)
  • Records: DeSales (10-2-1, 1-0-1 MAC Freedom); Eastern (6-5-1, 1-0-1 MAC Freedom)
  • The tie ends the Bulldogs win streak at eight, the longest of all-time, but does extend its unbeaten streak to nine straight, tying the school-record set during the 2014 season.
How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first-half DeSales took a 1-0 lead when freshman Katie Padgett knocked home a centering pass from senior Sophie Goad in the 53rd minute.
  • Eastern tied the game in the 68th minute scoring on a free kick and took a 2-1 lead just 5:30 later when a defensive misplay created a 1-v-1 with the GK and the Eagles took advantage.
  • DeSales fought hard and tied the game at two with seven minutes left when freshman Tess Rodgers blasted home a goal from about 25 yards out inside the far post.
  • DSU was the aggressor the entire game, out-shooting Eastern, 8-1 in the two overtime periods but was unable to find the game-winner settling for the tie.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • It was Padgett's fifth goal of the year and Rodgers third.
  • Junior Lia Gaccione made three saves in between the pipes.
For the Foes
  • Amy Radcliffe and Nicole Weenink had Eastern's two tallies.
  • Zoe Galvin had an assist and Kerry Phillips made 14 saves in goal.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU dominated the stat sheet out-shooting Eastern, 36-7, for the game, and holding an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
