Women's Soccer Clinches MAC Freedom Playoff Berth with 1-0 OT Win over Wilkes

Center Valley, PA (October 26, 2019) - Freshman Allie Trick scored with 1:31 left in the first overtime leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Wilkes University, 1-0, helping the Bulldogs clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament in two weeks.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 1, Wilkes - 0 (OT)
  • Records: DeSales (13-3-1, 4-1-1 MAC Freedom); Wilkes (6-7-1, 3-3 MAC Freedom)
  • The win clinches a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.  DSU is currently in third place with a road test at Misericordia University next weekend knowing a win would clinch the #2 seed and a home game in the postseason tournament.
How it Happened
  • After two scoreless halves, DSU got its game-winner when a ball centered into the box was fumbled by the Colonel goalkeeper.  Freshman Sam Monteforte touched the loose ball to the back post where Trick trickled a shot towards the open net that just barely crossed the line before a Colonel defender could come over to clear.

  • Monteforte's assist was her team best fifth of the year.
  • Junior Lia Gaccione made three saves to record her third shutout of the year.
For the Foes
  • Samantha Cecere made six saves for the Colonels.
