Men's Basketball Opens Season with 92-79 Loss to Muhlenberg

Center Valley, PA (November 12, 2019) - The DeSales University men's basketball team dropped its 2019-20 season opener to local rival Muhlenberg College, 92-79, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.

How it Happened
  • The Mules opened the game hitting their first seven 3's taking a commanding 30-14 lead 10:08 into the contest.
  • DSU battled back using a 13-4 run to get within seven and eventually within three with 1:20 to go in the first-half before another Muhlenberg triple to end the half gave the visitor's a 44-38 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • The Bulldogs kept crawling back to start the second-half and eventually tied the game at 49 on a three from junior Mike Bealer with 15:25 left.
  • The Mules had the answer however going on a 24-7 run over the next 6:10 to take a 73-56 lead and DeSales was unable to recover.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Tracy Simsick led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the field.
  • Senior Kweku Dawson-Amoah had 14 points and six rebounds off the bench.
  • Junior Timmy Edwards and senior Julian Wing each had eight points with Wing leading the team on the glass with nine rebounds.
  • Junior Matt Kachelries finished with a game-high nine assists.
For the Foes
  • Muhlenberg had a balanced attack that saw six of eight players that saw minutes reach double digits.
  • Spencer Duke led the way with 17 points.
  • Seven of the eight players who played hit a three in the win.

  • DeSales controlled the paint out-scoring Muhlenberg, 46-28, in the lane.
