Bealer Leads Five Players in Double Digits in 95-88 Win over Wesley

Oneonta, NY (November 15, 2019) - Junior Mike Bealer scored all 21 of his points in the first-half leading five players in double digits and the DeSales University men's basketball team past Wesley College, 95-88, in the opening round of the Quality Inn Tournament at Oneonta on Friday evening.

How it Happened
  • A back-and-forth start saw DSU leading 15-11 early before the Wolverines used an 18-7 run to take a 27-22 lead at the 8:25 mark of the opening half.
  • Sophomore Keba Mitchell and junior Timmy Edwards stopped the run with buckets inside igniting a 16-0 run that pushed DSU up 11 points (38-27) with 3:36 to go as Bealer scored the final 12 points of the spurt hitting four straight 3's as the 11-point advantage continued into the halftime locker room.
  • Wesley cut the halftime advantage down to four points early before a 9-2 DeSales spurt reclaimed the 11-point lead thanks in part to five straight points from senior Ben Pratt.
  • It was a four-point game once again at 8:23 but DSU was again up to the challenge using a 10-2 run to take its largest lead (12 points), 80-68, with 5:10 left.
  • WC had one more rally left pulling within three points twice but the Bulldogs answered with a lay-up from senior Tracy Simsick and hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch to ice the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Bealer was simply unstoppable in the opening half hitting 7-of-9 from outside the arc, scoring all 21 of his points.
  • Senior Kweku Dawson-Amoah had 16 points and Edwards added 13 points and six rebounds off the pine.
  • Pratt finished with 14 points and six assists, without committing a turnover.
  • Simsick rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.
  • Junior Matt Kachelries had six points and six assists and Mitchell blocked four shots off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Brian Cameron was outstanding in the loss netting 34 points and adding 11 dimes for the Wolverines.
  • Derick Charles added 13 points and Russ Keyhea had 14 off the bench.
Inside the Box Score
  • The DeSales bench was terrific out-scoring Wesley's pine team, 58-22.
  • DSU shot 47.6 percent from the field and was 11-for-24 from outside the arc (45.8 percent).

  • The Bulldogs will take on the winner of the other opening round game between Alvernia and the Oneonta on Saturday beginning at 3:00 pm.
