Volleyball Drops Two at Stockton Tri-Match

Pomona, NJ (November 2, 2019) - The DeSales University finished up the regular season dropping both ends of a tri-match at Stockton University with Neumann University on Saturday.

Match #1 (L/0-3 vs. Stockton - 25-19, 25-15, 25-16)
The Bulldogs were unable to get anything going vs. the Ospreys falling behind early in each set and unable to overcome the early deficits.  DSU hit just .020 for the match.

Leading the way was senior Morghan Shoemaker with five kills and a .273 hitting percentage.  Freshman McKenzie Brady and sophomore Georgia Traynor each had seven digs in the loss.  Sophomore Audrey Wolfe totaled 21 assists.

Match #2 (L/1-3 vs. Neumann - 28-26, 21-25, 22-25, 24-26)
DSU shook off two set points in the first set at 24-22 to tie the match at 24 and after the set was tied at 26 a kill from freshman Delanie Zohler and a Neumann error gave the Bulldogs the first set, 28-26.  DeSales led 11-10 in the second set before seven straight points from the Knights gave NU a 17-11 lead and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.

In the third set, DSU lead 21-18 before Neumann scored six straight points to take a 24-21 lead before closing it out, 25-22.  The fourth set was another back-and-forth affair that saw DeSales with a set point at 24-23, but a block by the Knights tied the score and NU won each of the next two points to take the match.

Shoemaker again led the charge with 13 kills and four blocks, while hitting .375.  Zohler also had 13 kills and junior Grace Merritt had 10 kills.  Freshman Diane Pugay added eight kills.

Senior Cristal Fernandez had 14 digs, while Wolfe finished with 46 assists, 12 digs, and three blocks.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Eastern University for the MAC Freedom Tournament semifinals beginning at 7:00 pm.
