Turnovers Doom Men's Basketball in 81-68 Loss to Moravian

Center Valley, PA (November 26, 2019) - The DeSales University men's basketball team committed 31 turnovers dropping an 81-68 decision to local rival Moravian College in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Moravian - 81, DeSales - 68
  • Records: DeSales (3-2); Moravian (4-2)
  • The loss pulls the all-time series to almost even as the Bulldogs cling to a 24-23 edge in the series.
How it Happened
  • DeSales opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers to take a 6-0 lead but Moravian went on an 18-3 run to take an 18-9 lead prompting a Bulldog timeout.
  • DSU responded out of that timeout with a 14-0 run of its own, including eight points from junior Timmy Edwards, to take a 23-18 lead with 10:27 to go in the first-half.
  • The rest of the half went back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than four points as the Greyhounds took a 43-42 lead into the locker room.
  • After two straight buckets to open the second-half, DSU used an 8-1 run to take a 50-48 lead at the 14:42 mark.
  • John Rigsby knocked down a 3 on the Greyhounds' next possession sparking a 13-2 run that gave Moravian 61-52 lead with 9:13 remaining.
  • DSU battled back to get within five twice, including 63-58, with 6:56 left, but that was answered with a 10-2 Greyhound run giving the visitor's a 73-60 lead with 2:21 to go and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Edwards was once again solid off the bench with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
  • Senior Kweku Dawson-Amoah also reached double digits with 13 points and pulled down six boards.
  • Junior Matt Kachelries and senior Tracy Simsick each had nine points in the loss.
For the Foes
  • C.J. Barnes had 19 points, Matt O'Connor finished with 17 tallies, and Addis Ralph was outstanding off the bench with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Mike Martino finished with eight points, five assists, and five steals.
Inside the Box Score
  • The game was marred by 48 total fouls as three Bulldogs and one Greyhound fouled out and three others had four fouls.
  • Moravian took advantage of those 31 Bulldog miscues, scoring 33 points off those turnovers.
  • DSU shot 53.2 percent from the field, but after hitting 7-of-8 from the charity stripe in the first-half, struggled at the line in the second-half converting just 6-of-12.
