Center Valley, PA (November 6, 2019) - For the third straight year the DeSales University field hockey team will be playing for the MAC Freedom championship after a 2-1 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in the MAC Freedom semifinals on Wednesday evening.

The Basics

• Final Score: DeSales - 2, Stevens - 1
• Records: DeSales (13-8); Stevens (11-8)
• The Bulldogs win a semifinal game for the third straight season and will advance to play the top seed, FDU-Florham, on Saturday at a time to be announced.

How it Happened

• The Bulldogs seemed to have taken a 1-0 lead mid-way thru the first quarter but the goal was waived off as play continued.
• DSU eventually took a 1-0 lead at 26:13 of the second quarter when freshman Catie McGrath scored from the middle of the circle on a pass from fellow freshman Tyra Wingle.
• That lead stood into the half and the Ducks tied the game at one at 39:50 when Brynn Froehlich scored on the far post on a tip-in.
• The game was ticking closer and closer to overtime before the Bulldogs earned back-to-back corners with under two minutes to play.
• On the second corner, McGrath scored on a pass on the post from freshman Leah Echard to give DSU a 2-1 lead and the defense did the rest holding off a late Duck corner.

Top Bulldog Performers

• McGrath's goals were her team-leading 15th and 16th of the season.  It moves her to third, two shy of tying the single-season record for goals.
• It was Wingle's sixth assist and Echard's first helper of the year.
• Senior Katarina Polyviou made two saves in goal.

For the Foes

• Froehlich scored SIT's goal and Ireland Tawney had an assist on the play.
• Emily Franco made six saves for the Devils.
