Six in Double Digits as #11 DeSales Rallies past St. Vincent, 76-60

Center Valley, PA (December 16, 2019) - The #11 DeSales University women's basketball team used a 24-4 run to end the first-half and start the third quarter to pull away from St. Vincent College in a 76-60 win in non-conference action on Monday evening in Billera Hall.

  • Final Score: DeSales - 76, St. Vincent - 60
  • Records: DeSales (7-1); St. Vincent (5-2)
How it Happened
  • DSU led by six after one quarter but the Bearcats clawed back into the game opening the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 26-24 lead with 7:06 left in the first-half.
  • After both teams went scoreless over the next 2:17, DSU finished the half on an 11-0 run to take a 35-26 lead into the locker room.  Freshman Maria Newsome (5 points) and sophomore Rylie Rittenhouse (4 points) led the charge to end the half.
  • The spurt continued into the third quarter as the Bulldogs opened the second-half on a 13-4 run extending its lead to 16 points (48-32) at the 5:48 mark and never really looked back from there.
  • Five different players scored during the run with Newsome opening and closing the run with lay-ups.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Newsome led six players in double digits with 14 points and added six rebounds.
  • Sophomore Averi Jordan had 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Shinkus added 12 points and six assists.
  • Senior Molly Jansco had 11 tallies, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
  • Rittenhouse and fellow sophomore Emma Stanfield led the charge off the bench with 10 points each.
For the Foes
  • Paige Montrose and Madison Kollar each had 12 points to lead St. Vincent.
  • Jenna Lafko added 11 points and five steals before fouling out.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales shot 43.9 percent from the field and was 13-for-15 from the charity stripe.
  • DSU forced 26 Bearcat turnovers leading to 32 points and had 26 fast break points.
  • St. Vincent was just 4-for-19 from outside the arc.
