#10 Women's Hoops Falls to #6 Amherst, 73-52

Las Vegas, NV (December 28, 2019) - #6 Amherst College finished the game on a 15-0 run defeating the 10th ranked DeSales University women's basketball team, 73-52, in the first game of the d3hoops.com classic in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: #6 Amherst - 73, #10 DeSales - 52
  • Records: DeSales (7-2); Amherst (5-1)
How it Happened
  • It was a back-and-forth start to the game that saw the Mammoths finish the first quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 15-9 lead.
  • The second quarter was all DeSales as the Bulldogs out-scored AC, 23-13, scoring the first seven points of the quarter and finishing the half with a 3 from sophomore Rylie Rittenhouse giving DSU a 32-28 halftime lead.
  • Amherst opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 40-34 lead and extended its advantage to 12 points out-scoring DeSales, 28-12 in the quarter.
  • The Bulldogs refused to away quietly as back-to-back three-point plays from sophomore Averi Jordan and freshman Megan Bealer quickly cut the gap in half as DSU trailed 56-50 early in the fourth quarter.
  • After an Amherst bucket and two free throws from freshman Grace Kelleher the gap remained six and the Bulldogs had possession but a steal and lay-up ignited a game-ending 15-0 Amherst run as the Bulldogs struggled to get anything going on the offensive end over the final seven minutes against one of the nation's best defensive teams.
