Jansco Highlights 10-0 Run Late to Lift #9/10 DeSales past Claremont, 67-63

Las Vegas, NV (December 30, 2019) - Senior Molly Jansco scored the final five points of the game and grabbed three huge rebounds in that stretch leading a 10-0 game-ending run lifiting the #9/10 DeSales University women's basketball team past Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 67-63, in the second game of the d3hoops.com classic in Las Vegas, NV on Monday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs scored the first six points of the game and finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 16-8 lead after one period.
  • The lead extended to nine points (23-14) after five straight points from sophomore Emma Stanfield early in the second quarter before CMS caught fire from deep.
  • The Athenas trailed by eight points with 4:54 left when they finished the half on a 9-0 run to take a 26-17 lead hitting one 3 and six free throws during the stretch.
  • A three out of halftime pushed the lead to four points when DeSales regained control using a 7-0 run to take a 32-29 lead.
  • After exchanging free throws the Bulldogs extended its lead to 40-33, a 15-4 run since trailing by four with 4:39 left in the quarter.
  • A game of runs saw CMS use an 11-2 spurt over the next 2:12 to take a 44-42 lead and continued to lead by two points (50-48) after three quarters of play.
  • The first five minutes of the final period were back-and-forth as the game was tied at 57 with 5:14 to go.
  • Claremont scored the next six points to take a 63-57 lead with just 2:15 left in the game when DeSales began its game clinching run.
  • Sophomore Samantha Shinkus started the spurt with two freebies, while freshman Marie Newsome and sophomore Averi Jordan hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line to make it a one-point game 1:14 remaining.
  • After getting a stop on the defensive end, DSU got a great look from Jordan mid-range that was off the mark but Jansco was there for the offensive rebound putback giving the Bulldogs a 64-63 lead with 27 ticks left.
  • Another defensive stop saw Jansco grab the defensive rebound and hit 1-of-2 free throws giving DeSales a two-point lead with 15 seconds left.
  • After multiple timeouts, a CMS three was off the mark and again Jansco grabbed the board, was fouled, and this time iced the game hitting both free throws with four seconds left to secure the victory.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Jansco finished with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the charity stripe and pulled down seven boards.
  • Shinkus added 13 points, all coming in the second-half and Jordan finished with 10 points.
  • Newsome also reached double digits with 10 points, hitting 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and added five steals.
For the Foes
  • Jacey Carter and Gloria Bates each led the Athenas with 12 points.
  • Jane Baldwin had 11 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales scored 28 points off 24 CMS turnovers.
  • The Bulldogs were outstanding from the free throw line hitting 29-of-35 (82.9%) for the game.
  • CMS hit 10 3-pointers in the loss.
